Dr.Rajan Varughese, Director, Marthoma College of Management and Technology is Ph.D., in Statistics from the Cochin University of Science and Technology and is serving the Management Institution from 2005. He served the Union Christian College, Alwaye as Professor, Dean of Administration and Development and was Principal during 1995-2000. From 2000 to 2003 he was the Principal of the Mar Thoma College for Women, Perumbavoor. He also served as Director of the Off-Campus Academic Centre of the Mahatma Gandhi University in Mar Thoma College for Women, Perumbavoor offering MBA and MCA courses from 2003 to 2005. He was the Professor-in-Charge of U.C.College Computer Centre and initiated and established the Institute of Communication and Information Technology (ICIT), an institution with permanent accreditation by DOEACC Society of the Government of India. He was a Member of the Syndicate of the Mahatma Gandhi University and served the University as member of the Academic Council. He is serving the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission as a Member Coordinator in assessment and accreditation of institutions and visited over 100 institutions in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharghand, Goa, West Bengal, Orrissa and Andhra Pradesh during 1998 - 2009. He was selected for the prestigious award of Fulbright Fellowship for Educational Administration by the USEFI in 2000. Under his leadership, the U.C.College got assessed and accredited for a period of five years from 1999 with 'five stars', the highest rating given to any institution by NAAC. He established the Institute of Communication and Information Technology (ICIT) at U.C.College and the Institute of Information and e-Learning Technology (IIeLT) at Mar Thoma College for Women. Under his leadership, Mar Thoma College also got the NAAC accreditation at the ‘B’ Grade. Popularizing the message of nature conservation, preparing staff and students in the use of computer and internet in teaching and learning, establishment of a home pages for the two colleges, affiliating a number of new courses starting of ancillary and enrichment courses in a number of inter-disciplinary areas including Ecology, Wildlife, Tribal studies and Folklore, publication of a multi-disciplinary research journal, successfully implementing a number of development projects in the two colleges, preparation of a master plan for the colleges, providing additional infrastructure for the colleges and hostels, raising necessary financial resources for the implementation of the projects, establishment of considerable support from Local, State and Central Governments, national and international funding agencies, and promotion of international linkages were his important programmes.
He has several publications in Wildlife Studies, Queues, Higher Education and HRD. He attended a number of conferences / seminars / workshops on information technology/ networking/ sample surveys/wildlife population estimation/transactional analysis/higher education issues/ restructuring of curriculum as resource person/participant/panelist/panel moderator at the national and international forums. He has undertaken projects on Statistical Survey of Wildlife at Periyar Sanctuary, Census of Nilgiri Tahr at Eravikulam National Park, Environmental awareness camps for college and University students of Kerala held at Silent Valley National Park, Eco System study of the Periyar Tiger Reserve, Eravikulam National Park and Silent Valley National Park. Stochastic Modelling related to Queues and Inventories and software reliability are his research areas. He is an approved research supervisor of the Mahatma Gandhi University.
